Our policy in response to the Oct 2021 BC government vaccine passport requirement is
COURSE CANCELLATION
When Simply Sailing Cancels a Course
Should we need to cancel a course due to weather concerns, a technical issue or any other reason, Simply Sailing will issue a full refund of the course fee paid. Our maximum liability for any course is the amount paid by the customer. No other claims beyond the course fee can be made.
When a Client Cancels a Course
If another person can take your spot we will refund your payment less
The following course cancellations are not eligible for any refund:
PRIVATE COURSE CANCELLATION
Cancel or Reschedule 20 days before the course start date
INSURANCE
We highly recommend trip cancellation insurance
Trip cancellation insurance can be obtained from your own regular insurance provider, some banks, or BCAA
MISSED A CLASS?
For Basic Cruising and Basic Crew, all sessions on the water must be attended to achieve certification.
Evening classes are not compulsory, but the exam does need to written.

REWRITING AN EXAM
Any exam can be rewritten after two weeks
MISSED THE EXAM?
Make every effort to attend the exam session during the course, when the knowledge is fresh. No Sail Canada certification can be issued without the written exam. Even if you don't feel ready to write, consider that the exam and post-exam discussion is a learning opportunity and review of the material. Fees for writing the exam at a later date are the same as for rewriting an exam.
CHALLENGING AN EXAM
For experienced sailors, some written exams can be challenged without taking the full course. For Crew and Cruising Standards, certification can only be issued after both the exam is written and the on-water skills are demonstrated aboard.
In addition to all other costs, the cost for sitting an exam is:
Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced Cruising Standard or Basic Coastal Navigation
Written Exam Challenge
VHF Radio Operators Card (Marine) ROC(M)
International Certificate of Competency written exam

- Day sailing, classroom, and liveaboard students need two vaccinations to participate in courses
- Vaccination Passport proof will need to be provided before the course begins
COURSE CANCELLATION
When Simply Sailing Cancels a Course
Should we need to cancel a course due to weather concerns, a technical issue or any other reason, Simply Sailing will issue a full refund of the course fee paid. Our maximum liability for any course is the amount paid by the customer. No other claims beyond the course fee can be made.
When a Client Cancels a Course
If another person can take your spot we will refund your payment less
- $75 administrative deduction for 1 to 3 day courses, where no materials have been issued
- $150 administrative deduction for all other courses
The following course cancellations are not eligible for any refund:
- One day clinics or classroom courses cancelled within 6 weeks of the scheduled start date
- Day sailing course cancelled within 6 weeks of the scheduled start date
- Five day live aboard courses cancelled within 2 months of the scheduled start date
- Liveaboard courses (five to ten day trips) cancelled within 3 months of the scheduled start date
- Expeditions (i.e. Van Isle, or offshore) cancelled within 5 months of the scheduled start date
PRIVATE COURSE CANCELLATION
Cancel or Reschedule 20 days before the course start date
- Reschedule one time only at no cost
- Refund less $150 administrative fee
- 50% refund

- No cost
- $129 for each day on the water to join another class
- Call the office for space availability on a scheduled Day Sailing or Four Day Intensive course, or
- Register yourself for a One Day Sail Basic Cruising Checkout for $129
- Private make-up class are charged at private course rates

VHF Radio Operators Card (Marine) ROC(M)
- a Simply Sailing instructor must be present to administer the oral portion of the exam
- During regular office hours $149 (or the current price of a full VHF course)
- Outside of regular office hours $225
- includes textbook, study materials, Industry Canada registration and VHF card
International Certificate of Competency written exam
- during office hours $100
- outside of office hours $175
- Does not include two day skills assessment, Yacht Training (IYT) online course, or International Bareboat Skipper exam
NOTE
- Sailing course and exam fees are charged per person unless otherwise noted
- All fees and refunds are subject to 5% GST
